The Railway Children is a children's novel by British writer Edith Nesbit, serialized in The London Magazine from January 1905 to January 1906 before its book publication in 1906. It follows a family who move to a house near a railway line after the father is wrongfully imprisoned on espionage charges, and centers on the three children's friendship with an elderly gentleman whose intervention ultimately helps clear their father's name. The novel has been adapted for the screen several times, most famously in a 1970 film version.
