The Mandarins (Les Mandarins), published in 1954, is Simone de Beauvoir's roman a clef following a circle of French left wing intellectuals, closely modeled on Beauvoir's own circle including Sartre and Albert Camus, in the disillusioned years immediately after the Second World War. It won the Prix Goncourt, France's leading literary prize, in 1954.
