The Life of an Amorous Woman is a Japanese short novel by Ihara Saikaku that depicts the ukiyo of Edo-period Japan. It was first published in Osaka in 1686 in six volumes, each divided into four chapters. Written in the first person from the female protagonist's own perspective, it shows, in contrast to Ihara's earlier works, the darker and more materialistic side of kōshoku, or passion.
