Animal Farm

Animal Farm, originally published as Animal Farm: A Fairy Story, is a satirical allegorical dystopian novella by George Orwell, in the form of a beast fable, first published in England on 17 August 1945. It follows the mistreated anthropomorphic farm animals of Manor Farm as they rebel against their human master and hope to create a utopian society, only for the rebellion to be hijacked and betrayed under the dictatorship of the pigs, leaving the farm in a dystopian state nearly identical to what it was before. Orwell said the book reflects events leading up to the Russian Revolution of 1917 and on into the Stalinist era of the Soviet Union, and described it in his essay Why I Write as the first book in which he tried, with full consciousness of what he was doing, to fuse political purpose and artistic purpose into one whole.
