Futurism was an avant-garde artistic and literary movement founded in Milan in 1909 by the poet and theorist Filippo Tommaso Marinetti, whose Manifesto of Futurism called for a literature and art that celebrated speed, machinery, youth and violence while rejecting the past. As an organized movement it is generally considered to have ended with Marinetti's death in 1944.
