Food Journalism

Food journalism is a field of journalism covering news and current events related to food, its production, and the cultures that produce and consume it, with a broader scope than the work of food critics who evaluate restaurants and their dishes; it is related to, though broader than, this atlas's own Food Writing genre, which documents the experience and history of food. Food journalism increasingly explores how current events, from the COVID-19 pandemic to climate change, affect food systems, and it overlaps with public health, political, and economic journalism in covering topics such as agricultural labor, restaurant workers, and food sovereignty, meaning people's control over how their own food is produced and distributed.
