Sei Shonagon

Sei Shonagon, also known by the honorific Seijo, was a Japanese author, poet and court lady who lived from around 966 to sometime between 1017 and 1025, serving Empress Teishi during the middle Heian period around the year 1000. She is the author of The Pillow Book, a collection of observations, lists and reflections on court life regarded as one of the foundational works of Japanese literature and an early example of the zuihitsu, or miscellany, genre.
