The Picture of Dorian Gray is Oscar Wilde's only novel, first published in Lippincott's Monthly Magazine in July 1890 and issued in an expanded book form in April 1891. Its preface, defending art for art's sake, became famous in its own right as a literary manifesto of Aestheticism.
