The Moonstone is an 1868 British novel by Wilkie Collins, published in epistolary form as a sequence of first-person narratives told by its own characters. It is widely regarded as an early landmark of the modern detective novel and is credited with establishing many of the conventions the genre would go on to follow. Collins serialized the novel across 1868 in Charles Dickens's magazine All the Year Round, completing its run in August of that year, and later adapted it for the stage in 1877.
