Great Expectations

Great Expectations is the thirteenth novel by the English author Charles Dickens and his penultimate completed novel, a bildungsroman depicting the education of an orphan nicknamed Pip. It was first published as a serial in Dickens's weekly periodical All the Year Round from 1 December 1860 to August 1861, and Chapman and Hall published it as a three-volume book in October 1861. Set in Kent and London in the early to mid-nineteenth century, the novel contains some of Dickens's most celebrated scenes and a colourful cast of characters including the eccentric Miss Havisham, the cold Estella and the kind blacksmith Joe Gargery, exploring themes of wealth and poverty, love and rejection, and the eventual triumph of good over evil.
