Secondary Scholarship

Academic secondary sources, including monographs, scholarly essays and critical studies, cited for interpretive or historical claims about an author, work or movement that go beyond what a primary text or a general reference source states on its own. Belongs here: a citation to a scholarly secondary work. Does not belong here: the primary literary text itself, tracked as Primary Text, or a general-audience study guide, tracked separately, since both carry different evidentiary weight than peer-reviewed or academically vetted scholarship.
