Historical and Chronicle Writing

Genres organized around the chronological or biographical record of real past events and lives: the annal, the chronicle, the universal history and the biographical-historical dictionary or anthology. Belongs here: annals, chronicle, universal history, the bakhar and other named regional historical-narrative prose forms, and biographical-historical genres such as tabaqat, tazkirah and the troubadour vida. Does not belong here: a personal first-person account of lived experience, placed under nonfiction and documentary prose instead, and a text whose organizing purpose is religious rather than historical record, placed under religious and devotional writing instead.
