The arlabecca was a genre of Old Occitan lyric poetry. First mentioned in an ensenhamen by Peire Lunel, the genre was supposed by François Raynouard to be a lament or dirge, and Emil Levy thought it a "kind of poetry". It may derive from the Galician-Portuguese term for a rebec, arrabecca. The term rebec can be found in Old Occitan references to both an instrument and a genre. Possibly the rebec is the same genre as the arlabecca. Lunel defined his arlabecca by its metre, and thus his ensenhamen was an arlabecca as well.

Place of OriginSource names the genre as Old Occitan lyric poetry; Occitania is inferred from the language and no place of origin is stated. Defining TraitDefined by its metre (Peire Lunel's usage) 1 Source says only that Peire Lunel defined his own arlabecca by its metre; other scholars proposed a lament or dirge, so the genre's nature is uncertain. How was the arlabecca defined?
Peire Lunel defined it by its metre.
The one definition on record comes from the poet Peire Lunel, who defined his arlabecca by its metre rather than by its subject. Because of that, his own ensenhamen, the work in which the genre is first mentioned, counts as an arlabecca as well.
