Genre entities name the broad literary classification schemes a work can belong to, the dramatic, epic, novelistic, short-form, speculative and satirical traditions literary scholarship has long used to sort written work by its own conventions and expectations. This atlas groups its genre roster into six bands, Dramatic Genres, Epic and Heroic Narrative, The Novel and Its Forms, Short, Lyric and Nonfiction Forms, Speculative and Fantastic Fiction, and Satire and Mystery Fiction, the same grouping literary work entities already use for their own genre-mode SubLabel. A genre is a classification vocabulary in active use elsewhere in this atlas, not a stand-alone subject carrying a further layer beneath it.
