The Tigers of Mompracem

The Tigers of Mompracem is an adventure novel by the Italian writer Emilio Salgari, first published in 1900 as Le Tigri di Mompracem and later translated into English. It is the first book in the Sandokan series and follows a band of rebel pirates in nineteenth century Malaysia led by Sandokan, called the Tiger of Malaysia, and his companion Yanez de Gomera, as they resist Dutch and British colonial rule. After twelve years of raiding, Sandokan learns of a woman known as the Pearl of Labuan, a discovery that changes the course of his campaign. The novel was followed by The Mystery of the Black Jungle and was adapted into a 1970 film.
