Funeral Oratory and Consolation

Genres of speech and writing that honour the dead or comfort the bereaved, such as the eulogy given at a funeral or retirement and the consolatory oration of classical rhetoric. A genre belongs here when its cited article describes it as praise of a person who has died or as comfort offered to mourners. It excludes verse elegies, which sit with the poetry groups, and biographies, which tell a whole life. These genres are occasional prose or speech, made for a funeral, a retirement or a time of mourning, and a genre is placed here by the occasion its cited article gives for it.
