Sharebon

Sharebon, roughly translatable as book of manners, is a pre-modern Japanese literary genre produced from the 1720s to the end of the eighteenth century. Its plots almost always took place in the Yoshiwara pleasure quarters and typically followed the misadventures of two contrasting male archetypes, the sophisticated tsu and the tanketsu who only pretends at sophistication, with the writing emphasizing humor and dialogue over dramatic plot. Sharebon is considered a subgenre of gesaku.
