Nature Writing

Nature writing is a literary genre of nonfiction, and occasionally fiction or poetry, about the natural environment, typically drawing on scientific observation alongside personal or philosophical reflection. It spans a wide range of forms, from technical field guides and natural history documentation to introspective essays and travel narratives concerned with the outdoors. The contemporary tradition traces to eighteenth-century natural history writing, with the English naturalist Gilbert White's observational work helping to establish the genre's foundations.
