Missal

A missal is a liturgical book containing the instructions and texts needed to celebrate Mass throughout the liturgical year. Its contents differ across liturgical traditions, historical periods, and intended use, with some missals meant for a priest celebrating Mass publicly and others intended for private or lay use; the 1970 Roman Missal contains the texts of the Mass of Paul VI, the most widely celebrated Eucharistic liturgy in the world. Missals also exist for earlier forms of the Roman Rite and for other Latin liturgical rites, while other liturgical books carry the Eucharistic liturgies of the Byzantine Rite, the Western Rite of Eastern Orthodoxy, and Lutheran and Anglican traditions.
