World Traditional Verse Forms

Minnesang, literally love song, is a tradition of German lyric and song writing that flourished during the Middle High German period of the twelfth to fourteenth centuries. Its name comes from minne, the Middle High German word for love, which was the tradition's main subject. Minnesang is regarded as an original German contribution to courtly lyric poetry, comparable to the traditions of the Occitan troubadours and the French trouveres.
