Huaigu is one of the Classical Chinese poetry genres. A huaigu poem is one in which the poet looks back at some bygone time, place or person, and it may be written in any of the Classical Chinese poetry forms. According to the scholar Burton Watson, huaigu is one of the perennial themes of Chinese poetry, in which the poet contemplates the ruins of past glory.
