Fields and Gardens poetry is a genre of Chinese poetry, generally considered to date from the Six Dynasties era, that sparked centuries of poetic enthusiasm. It shares with Chinese landscape poetry a common focus on nature over human beings and human thought, but the nature it treats is more domestic: the cultivated countryside, gardens and backyards rather than untamed wilderness. Some poems in the genre were designed to be viewed alongside a particular work of art, while others were meant as textual art that evokes an image in the reader's mind.
