Fakhr, also fakhar or fakr, is an Arabic word literally meaning pride, honor, or glory, used in contexts ranging from personal names, such as Fakhr al-Din meaning pride of the faith, to a traditional kunya element or a surname. Within Arabic literary studies the word also names a recognized genre, or topos, of traditional Arabic poetry comprising boasting or self-praise, often opening with the exclamation known as waw rubba.
