Fagu, also spelled Phagu, is a genre of poetry in the Old Gujarati language popular during the early period of Gujarati literature, its name derived from a Sanskrit word associated with the spring season and the Hindu month of Phalguna. The lyrical form celebrates the beauty of nature in spring alongside romantic themes of love, separation and reunion, and its earliest known example is the Jinachandra Suri Fagu of around 1225, with the Sthulibhadra Fagu of 1234 to 1244 the first complete surviving work.
