Extravaganza

An extravaganza is a genre of literary or musical work, staged as a spectacular production and marked by a freedom of style and structure that sets it apart from more conventional theatre. It usually carries elements of Victorian burlesque and pantomime, and it sometimes draws as well on music hall, cabaret, circus, revue, variety, vaudeville, and mime. The term comes from the Italian stravaganza, meaning extravagance, and by the twentieth century it had broadened from this specific theatrical genre into a general term for any elaborate, spectacular, and expensive production.
