Cai Luong

Cai luong, meaning reformed theater, also written tuong cai luong, is a form of modern folk opera in Vietnam that originated in the south of the country and flourished during the 1930s under French colonial rule. It blends southern Vietnamese folk songs, classical music, hat tuong, a classical theatre form based on Chinese opera, and modern spoken drama into a single hybrid theatrical genre.
