A three-act play in Danish/Bokmal by the Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen, first performed at the Royal Danish Theatre in Copenhagen on 21 December 1879. It follows Nora Helmer, a wife and mother who comes to recognize the hollowness of her marriage and its social expectations, and its final scene, in which Nora walks out on her husband and children, provoked fierce controversy and made the play a foundational text of both dramatic realism and feminist literature.
