Sigrid Undset

Sigrid Undset (1882 to 1949) was a Danish-born Norwegian novelist awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1928. Raised in Norway, she published her first works of historical fiction in 1907 and is best known for the trilogy Kristin Lavransdatter, published between 1920 and 1922, which follows a woman's life in medieval Norway from birth to death. She fled Norway for the United States in 1940 in opposition to the German invasion and occupation, returning after the war ended in Europe in 1945.
