Karen Blixen

Baroness Karen Christentze von Blixen-Finecke, born Dinesen, was a Danish author who wrote in both Danish and English. She is best known for Out of Africa, an account of her life in Kenya, and for her story Babette's Feast, both of which were adapted into Academy Award winning films, as well as for her collection Seven Gothic Tales. Her later story collections include Winter's Tales (1942), Last Tales (1957), Anecdotes of Destiny (1958), and Ehrengard (1963), and she was considered several times for the Nobel Prize in Literature without winning, which Danish reports attributed to the judges' concern about perceived favoritism toward Scandinavian writers.
