American Literature

James Myers Thompson was an American novelist and screenwriter, known for his hardboiled crime fiction. He wrote more than thirty novels, the majority of them original paperback publications issued from the late 1940s through the mid 1950s. Born in 1906 and dying in 1977, he was largely overlooked in his lifetime but is now considered a major figure of American noir. He was little recognised in his lifetime, and his literary stature grew only after his death, when several of his novels were republished in the Black Lizard series of rediscovered crime fiction. His best-regarded works include The Killer Inside Me, Savage Night, A Hell of a Woman and Pop. 1280.
