The Magicians

Speculative Fiction

The Magicians is a 2009 fantasy novel by American writer Lev Grossman, published by Viking Press. It follows Quentin Coldwater, an unhappy teenager who discovers Brakebills, a secret college of magic in upstate New York, and later finds that Fillory, the magical land from his favorite childhood books, actually exists. The novel is frequently described as a darker, more adult response to conventional fantasy tropes, and its critical success led to two sequel novels and a television adaptation that premiered on Syfy in 2015.
