The Minority Report is a 1956 science fiction novelette by American writer Philip K. Dick, first published in the magazine Fantastic Universe. It is set in a future society policed by Precrime, a division that arrests people for crimes predicted by three precognitive mutants before those crimes occur. The story follows Precrime's own commissioner, John Anderton, after he is named by the precogs as a future murderer and must determine whether he is the victim of a conspiracy or a genuine criminal. The novelette explores Dick's recurring concerns with free will, determinism and the danger of authoritarian systems, and was adapted into a 2002 film directed by Steven Spielberg.
