Miyoshi Shoraku was a Japanese playwright for the puppet theater, one of the three collaborators who wrote Kanadehon Chushingura, first staged in the eighth month of 1748 in Osaka. With Takeda Izumo II and Namiki Senryu he shared the authorship of the play, which was adapted for kabuki the same year. Chushingura is arguably the most famous play in both the kabuki and bunraku repertoires, loved for the struggles and self sacrifice of the individuals it portrays.
