Kaavya Viswanathan is an author who, while a Harvard University sophomore, published the novel How Opal Mehta Got Kissed, Got Wild, and Got a Life with Little, Brown and Company after a reported deal worth half a million dollars covering the book and a film. The Harvard Crimson reported that passages in the novel closely resembled those in books by Megan McCafferty. Viswanathan told a television interviewer that she saw the similarities but that they were unconscious and unintentional. The book was pulled from bookstore shelves.
