Domestic realism is a genre of nineteenth-century fiction concerned with the daily lives of ordinary Victorian women, also known by the names sentimental fiction or woman's fiction. The genre is reflected mainly in the novel, though short stories and non-fiction works belong to it as well, among them Harriet Beecher Stowe's Our Country Neighbors and The New Housekeeper's Manual, which Stowe wrote together with her sister Catharine Beecher.
