Atompunk

Atompunk is a retrofuturist genre that imagines and reimagines the period from 1945 to 1969 through the aesthetic and anxieties of the atomic, jet and space ages rather than through later, more familiar cyberpunk or steampunk imagery. Its visual and thematic material draws on mid-century modern design, the Populuxe and Raygun Gothic styles of retro-futurism, Cold War espionage and anti-communist paranoia, the Space Race, Googie architecture and the silver age of American comic book superheroes. Works cited as atompunk or as its direct precursors include 1950s science fiction film, the Sean Connery era of James Bond, Star Trek and The Twilight Zone on the historical side, and later works such as Logan's Run, The Iron Giant, The Incredibles and the Fallout video game series that consciously build on that same retrofuturist atomic-age aesthetic.
