Diary of a Madman (Gogol)

Diary of a Madman is a farcical short story by the Russian writer Nikolai Gogol, first published in 1835. It follows a minor civil servant, Poprishchin, during the reign of Nicholas I, tracing his descent into insanity through entries written in first person and diary-entry format, the only one of Gogol's works composed that way. Alongside The Overcoat and The Nose, it is considered one of Gogol's greatest short stories.
