Sejarah Melayu

Sejarah Melayu, the Malay Annals, is a Malay language chronicle recounting the origin, rise and fall of the Sultanate of Malacca, compiled by court historians drawing on earlier records; its oldest surviving version, from 1612, was commissioned by Raja Abdullah, regent of Johor, and compiled by Tun Sri Lanang. Written originally in the Jawi script, it survives today in some thirty two manuscript versions, and though it mixes legend with history, historians treat it as a primary source for verifiable events in the Malay world. It is regarded as one of the finest works of Malay literature and historiography and was inscribed on UNESCO's Memory of the World register in 2001.
