Informal books of record that people keep for themselves, their friends or their children, including the album amicorum in which friends and visitors wrote their names and verses, the baby book in which parents note a child's growth, and the Chinese biji, a notebook of personal observations without a fixed form. A genre belongs here when its cited article describes a collected or kept record of personal notes, signatures or memories rather than a formal treatise. It excludes the literary diary and the memoir, which belong with life writing.
