Narrative Role

Narrative role sorts fictional characters by the part they play in a story, such as protagonist, narrator or sidekick. Wikipedia describes Sherlock Holmes as "a fictional detective" who refers to himself as a "consulting detective," a role distinct from the friend and biographer who narrates most of his stories. This dimension groups characters who serve the same kind of narrative function.
