Literature in Spanish and Portuguese, spanning Spain and Portugal and the whole of Latin America, grouped together the way comparative literature surveys usually treat the Iberian-language world. Belongs here: Spain's Golden Age and modern authors, the Portuguese and Brazilian tradition, the Latin American Boom novelists and poets, and the indigenous Mesoamerican poetic tradition that Latin American literary history claims as its own root. Does not belong here: a Latin American author who wrote primarily in a language other than Spanish or Portuguese, none of whom appear in this atlas's current roster.
