Nonfiction and Documentary Prose

A cookbook, or cookery book, is a culinary reference work that collects recipes and instructions for food preparation, often alongside cooking techniques, ingredient information, nutritional data, and the cultural context of particular culinary practices. Cookbooks range from general-purpose works covering a wide variety of recipes and methods to specialized ones focused on a single cuisine, dietary restriction, cooking method, ingredient, historical period, cultural movement, or audience. They are written by professional chefs, food writers, cooking instructors, cultural historians, community groups and charities, or compiled anonymously from regional or historical tradition, and are aimed at readers ranging from home cooks to professional kitchen staff, institutional food service workers, culinary students, and specialists such as bakers or dietitians.
